Winter is here and despite the blue skies and sunny days it is cold! I bought myself one of the Kombi hoodies that we sell, and am amazed at how comfy and warm it is! I actually had to take it off in the house because I was too hot.
They come in both mens and womens styles, and I love that the womens ones are a little bit longer to cover your hips and keep the warmth in.
Jared bought the men's Old School Retro Kombi hoodie and he virtually wears it everywhere!
There's a few different Kombi and Beetle designs, so get a unique hoodie this winter and stay warm! Remember we offer free shipping so the price of our products is the price you pay at checkout.
Get complimented every time you pull out your wallet or carry around one of these Kombi accessories!
This new ShagWear range is pretty funky and features a wallet, coin purse, shoulder tote bag, passport holder, manicure set and luggage tag.
You can buy them seperately or bundle a few up to receive discounts. Buy the shoulder bag, wallet and coin purse all for under $100 delivered!
Or get set for travelling with the passport holder and the luggage tag for $32 delivered.
We've been experimenting with these awesome new Kombi wall decal stickers we got in recently and it's amazing how they brighten up a room!
I started carefully placing each sticker on the wall, but found they are so easy to unpeel and restick that it didn't much matter if I made a mistake.
I first placed the stickers in a similar pattern to what was shown on the promotion photos, and they looked pretty good!
Then I decided to try something different, so I removed all the stickers and started again. They didn't leave any marks on the wall and came straight off.
I tried to make the Kombi and flower decals look a little bit more funky and this is what I came up with!
So the decals come in three different sizes, one smaller than this and one larger. You can put them anywhere around the house - on doors, the lounge room wall or in your office! They really make a difference to the room, and if you get sick of them you can always remove them and change position!
Well what a day! We hope everyone who went to the VW Nationals this year had a blast, and those who missed out enjoyed attending vicariously through the many photos we posted!
There were official awards and medals handed out on the day, but we at Righteous Kombis have decided to choose our own winners, which are basically just our favourites!
Splitscreen
The Splitscreen VW Kombi that took our fancy was this beautiful red 23 window Samba. While we've always been uncertain about red Kombis, this dark burgendy complements this classic VW. The roof racks complete the vintage look.
Bay Window
This low-light has undergone a beautiful restoration, and has a soft-top roof, reupholstered seats and interior panels, and a Stan Pobjoy motor.
VW Rat
We love grungy look, and this Kombi Splitty rat takes out our award for best rat. "Rustie" has ruby red interior that is so striking against the original blue paint, and there is just the right amount of patina. The old luggage in the roof racks works so well on this Splitty, and the mini version of the Kombi on the inside is a nice touch!
Special mentions
The Kombi limo has to get a special mention - it was pretty darn rad to see it and be able to peer inside. It has a disco floor and lights, a bar, tvs, air con and who knows what else!
We also love this Type 3 Fastback - the colour painted in a matte finish, the roof racks with retro luggage, and the whitewalls.
What were your favourite VWs?
If you love Kombis, Beetles, Type 3s or anything VW, you can't miss the annual VW Nationals in Sydney.WEMMV4HWQW5Y
The event is held at the Fairfield Showground this Sunday, May 27 and is a chance for dub nuts to show off their pride and joy and check out hundreds of other beautiful VWs.
The day features a car show where prizes are awarded in dozens of categories, and a swap meet where you can buy and sell VWs and VW-related parts and merchandise.

If you want a swapmeet site the cost is $40, to sell you vehicle in the grounds is $30, and to participate in the Show and Shine is also $30.
For more info or to book a site check out the Club Vee Dub website.
We attended last year and had an awesome time checking out some amazing Kombis, Beetles, Type 3s, Karmann Ghias and other weird and wonderfuls VWs.
We are trying to get one of our Kombis ready for the swap meet, so we'll see you there!
Check out some photos of last year's VW Nationals:

We saw the new movie Dark Shadows a few nights ago and were very excited to see it featured a 1960s VW Splitscreen Kombi! You can see it briefly here in the trailer:
Without giving too much away the Kombi was featured in quite a few scenes, and if you pay close attention you may spot a brief shot of a second splitty somewhere in the film!
When we saw the Kombi for the first time in the movie we of course simultaneously shouted "Kombi!", and then shrunk down in our seats when we realised we were in a packed cinema.
But this got us thinking about other movies Kombis have featured in over the years. Being such an iconic vehicle their cameos are always memorable! Here are a few significant Kombi movie stars we remember:
1. Back to the Future
Ignoring the VW Kombi's heritage of peace and love, the Libyans used a 1970s baywindow to shoot out the roof at Doc and Marty for stealing their plutonium. It features quite an extensive chase scene, where initially one of the Libyans has trouble starting the Kombi, and then gets thrashed by the Delorean.
2. Bran Nue Dae
The 1963 VW Splitscreen is arguably the star of this beautiful Aussie musical film. Driven by Missy Higgins and her backpacker boyfriend, they make it all the way to Broome, but not without some mishaps on the way! Apparently the Kombi was originally green but painted with beautiful murals for the film. The owner loved the artwork so much she has left it as it is.
3. Little Miss Sunshine
Of course how could we forget this odd-ball movie that stars a bright yellow baywindow Kombi taken on a roadtrip by a family who is trying to get their daughter to the finals of a beauty pageant. Much hilarity ensues when the clutch breaks so anytime they want to start the Kombi they have to push it until it reaches 20 miles/hr and then run and jump in.

4. Cars
And finally, the lovable Fillmore, a 1960s VW Splitscreen bus who stars in both the Cars movies. Fillmore is a hippy to his core, owns an organic fuel shop and loves Jimmy Hendrix. He was voiced by George Carlin in the original movie, and then by Lloyd Sherr in the sequel after Carlin passed away.

We all know VW Kombis are very versatile - after all, you can live in them without too much trouble! But some very creative and, let's face it, sometimes crazy people around the world have turned the much-loved icons into some weird and wonderful creations. Here are 10 uses for a Kombi that may never have crossed your mind!
Kombi Cafe
This is a popular one and there are many examples of Kombis around the world being turned into cafes, restuarants, bars and ice cream vans. I love this one though because you can actually sit up at the Kombi on bar stools and eat your food. The addition of the awning to the raised roof and the fold-down side that forms a bar makes this a very groovy Kombi cafe.

Kombi Monster Truck
Giving a Kombi more power can never be a bad thing. No one would dare blast their horn in you in this one!

Kombi Garden
The VW Kombi's history of peace and love lends itself very nicely to transforming a Kombi into a garden.

Kombi Garden Shed
On the topic of gardens this Kombi is a jack of all trades. It is apparently a chicken coop in the back, a garden shed in the front, and a strawberry patch in the tyres!

Kombi Pool Table
This is an oldie but a goodie - a VW Kombi Splitscreen pool table. Makes me sad to see a Kombi taken off the road, but how cool would this be in your house!

Kombi Photo Booth
This is a pretty rad idea - a photo booth in a Kombi that can be hired for weddings and other functions for the enjoyment of your guests! This Kombi Cam is actually based in Melbourne - so there's a cool idea for your next party!

Kombi Trailer
Despite the size of a Kombi you can just never fit everything in when you're packing for that big trip. Solution? A Kombi trailer! Matches well with your Kombi and adds to the charm, although it might cause a bit of trouble up those big hills!

Stretch Kombi
Such a dream - a Kombi big enough to fit the whole wedding party in! There's one of these in Byron Bay that does weddings and events, and it's also starting tours of the area. Now that's cruising in style!
Kombi Tank
Not sure if this would speed up or slow down a Kombi, but it sure would make it easier to go off road! However this Kombi tank is slightly incongruous with the peace and love image Kombis have traditionally represented!

Kombi... giant robot?
Not sure what to say about this one... a work of art? A scary vision of when machines turn against us? Definitely strange.

Seen any other examples of Kombis turned into something else?
Check out the before and after photos of Rudolph - our 1973 VW Dormobile Kombi Camper! It's hard to believe it is the same Kombi.
We found Rudolph in a sorry state a few months ago, and gave him that name because of his bright red front. We could see his inner Kombi beauty even though he looked quite rough. He actually has a rebuilt 2L motor that purrs beautifully as soon you turn the key.
Rudolph already has a buyer who looked past his outward appearence and saw his potential to be a beautiful Kombi once again.
We still have a bit of work to do on Rudolph, such as the interior and a few other bits and pieces, but he should be on the road in a matter of weeks!

I couldn't resist taking a photo of kombis on such a beautiful day...
